Yesterday I had my first yoga class this semester and it was great fun! Especially nice is that my yoga group increased slightly this year. I myself think that a bigger group enhances the dynamics. It is the same with other kinds of teaching. However, it is important that the group is not too big either! In that case the students might disappear into the group and it is difficult to see and help each individual.
Next week I hope to be able to start the Children’s yoga as well. There are still places left, so if you are interested please check out my website: www.yogamedjohanna.se. Remember to register your interest as soon as possible as courses start next week.
Today I read yet another article about youth yoga. The teenagers in the article said that they like yoga because it is not about competition. There are so many aspects of our life that is competetive. For young people, it might be school and the grades that stresses them out, or it might be in a sport they are practicing. We adults are constantly bombarded with images of people who are perfect and successful. It can stress us and make us unhappy. We no longer see what we have, but only that what we do not have, which makes us feel bad.
I find it hard to believe that we as adults, nor our children can be completely independent of our environment and totally indestructible, but by taking a few moments each day and just be in the moment, we might feel better. Yoga gives us an opportunity to dedicate some time to ourselves, to be proud of our bodies (no matter what we achieve or what we look like), and to pause and reflect. Ignoring all requirements and must-haves, is something I think we all need.
